Dr. Elisa Ramon is a native Italian soprano, voice teacher, and diction coach. She serves as Assistant Professor of Applied Voice at Fort Hays State University. A dedicated pedagogue and researcher, she holds a Ph.D. in Vocal Pedagogy with a minor in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Dr. Ramon’s work focuses on the intersection of performance, pedagogy, and phonetics. Her research investigates Italian lyric diction and its application to achieving ease and clarity in Bel Canto singing. She is the creator of The Italian IPA Project, an online video repository of synchronized IPA transcriptions performed by native Italian singers. In addition, her scholarly and artistic interests extend to Ibero-Latin art song, promoting the use of Spanish diction and repertoire in developing vocal technique.
She earned a Diploma in Voice (B.Mus. + M.Mus.) and an M.Mus. in Music Education from the Cesare Pollini Conservatory of Padua, and a B.A. in Musicology from the University of Padua. Dr. Ramon is an SVI-trained Vocologist, a licensed teacher of Italian, and certified in Levels I, II, and III of Somatic Voicework™ for Contemporary Commercial Music.
As a performer, Dr. Ramon has appeared as soloist and recitalist in such venues as St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, St. Francis’ Basilica in Assisi, St. Anthony’s Basilica in Padua, and the Basilica dei Frari in Venice. She has sung leading and supporting roles including Mademoiselle Silberklang in Der Schauspieldirektor, Serpina in La Serva Padrona, Bastienne in Bastien und Bastienne, and Suora Zelatrice in Suor Angelica.
An advocate of the 20th-century Italian art song, she has performed works by Omizzolo, Lincetto, and Bossi, and premiered the CD recording of art songs by Apulian composer Michele Bellucci with pianist Davide Osellame. As part of the Operaperta Duo with guitarist Alessio Olivieri, she has performed throughout Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, premiering works by contemporary composers such as Mark Delpriora and recording a CD of Spanish and Italian songs.
Prior to joining Fort Hays State University, Dr. Ramon taught applied voice and diction at the University of North Texas and PennWest University.
